James Vickery Unveils New Single “Tear It Apart” Produced by Kenny Beats

Written by James Vickery and Kenny Beats, and produced by Kenny Beats, the new single “Tear It Apart” is so warm, catchy, and addictive that repeated listens are unavoidable. Available now via TH3RD BRAIN Records, the song is yet another example why London’s James Vickery continues to amass praise for his strong voice and unique R&B style.

The track, which originally debuted on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show, follows “Pressure,” and is the second single lifted from a new EP set for an early 2020 release. Soul, pop. hip-hop and electronic elements can all be found on the new EP; going to be a solid listen.

Speaking of the song, Vickery commented, “I wrote ‘Tear it Apart’ with Kenny Beats in our first ever session. It was a song I didn’t know I needed until I made it with him. Kenny asked me, ‘what’s on your mind?’ and honestly I didn’t know the answer. But by following his famous philosophy, D.O.T.S (don’t overthink shit), I was able to tap into a time when I was at my lowest and remember the only thing holding me together was one person. I owe that person everything. I can’t wait for everybody to hear this song that means the world to me.”

U.S. Tour Dates:

Dec 17 – Los Angeles, CA – The Echo
Dec 19 – Brooklyn, NY – Rough Trade

Union Duke Share Live Video for New Single “Atlas of Love”

Union Duke, the Toronto, Canada-based folk fivesome featuring Matt Warry-Smith, Jim McDonald, Ethan Smith, Will Staunton and Rob McLaren, has unveiled a live video for their recently-released single, “Atlas Of Love.” The song, which also features organ and pedal steel, was produced by Jeff Hazin and recorded between his studio and Toronto’s Taurus Recording.

Commenting on the video, the band stated, “This video was recorded live in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. We first discovered the space at The Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival. It was used as an after-hours hang for musicians and festival workers. We drank and sang into the wee hours of the morning with Willie Stratton, Red Moon Road, and a number of other awesome musicians. So, this past year when we were back touring in the area, we thought it would be the perfect spot to pop in and shoot a few live videos for our new songs.”

Adding colour about the new single, Jim McDonald noted, “‘Atlas of Love’ is a song for those who haven’t quite figured out the nature of their love, much less themselves. Originally, I couldn’t even figure out which direction the song was going in. I toyed with ‘I’m the Atlas of Love, and you’re the weight on my back,’ but ultimately, I think the song works better when I’m the one who’s the burden. It’s less accusatory and I feel like it’s something most people have felt at some point in their life. I think just about everyone has struggled with trying to figure out who they are and how they fit into a relationship.”

Come 2020, Union Duke will be performing a showcase in the UK at Americanafest from January 28th to 30th.

M. Ward Announces New Album ‘Migration Stories,’ Lead Single, and 2020 Spring Tour

Portland, OR-based musician M. Ward has confirmed that his newest (and tenth) album, titled Migration Stories, will be released on April 3rd via Anti Records. Accompanying the album announcement is the lead single “Migration Of Souls,” and a spring 2020 North American tour. For his latest studio recording, the writer, producer and performer travelled to Quebec, Canada where he recorded eleven tracks inspired by tales of human migration. Ward worked on Migration Stories with Tim Kingsbury and Richard Reed Parry of Arcade Fire fame, and Teddy Impakt. Production and mixing were handled by Craig Silvey (Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys, Florence and the Machine).

Commenting on the new music and stories behind the songs, Ward noted, “Some time went by, the stories wove together and I remember them now closer to characters in a dream of how people could treat each other than any kind of front-page news realism. I think music subconsciously – whether writing or listening – is a filter for me. Helping to process all the bad news into something new to build from. Some records to me are like self-fulfilling prophecies – visualizing change to wish something into being. Those records inspired this one.”

Raphael Weinroth-Browne Confirms Debut Solo Album; Shares “From Within” Music Video

Canadian cellist and composer Raphael Weinroth-Browne (known for his work with The Visit, Musk Ox, and Kamancello) continues to tease his upcoming debut solo recording, Worlds Within, and has now shared a music video for the single “From Within.” Commenting on the gorgeous Andrew Robillard-filmed and directed video, which can be seen below, Weinroth-Browne noted:

“‘From Within’ is the second chapter or movement of the album. I’ve always felt this piece to be very evocative of nature, specifically the forest. The title ‘From Within’ suggests an inner world, the world we carry inside ourselves and the place where nascent ideas and thoughts take seed and eventually grow to tower over us. The piece opens with three melodic phrases which seem to pose questions that are left unanswered. The repeating groove that follows is akin to the inexorable passing of time and the cycles of nature, while the solo line that emerges and eventually takes center stage represents the more subjective viewpoint of a human being attempting to navigate life. The ascending and atmospheric arpeggios in the final section signify the dissolution of previously held beliefs and flight beyond the shelter of the forest in search of renewed purpose and deeper truths. This search is figuratively portrayed in the video by actor/dancer Heather Sita Black.”

The self-produced Worlds Within is due on January 24th, 2020, and was recorded and mixed by Dean Watson with mastering by Alan Douches. The forty-minute album boasts elements of contemporary classical minimalism, metal, post-rock, and even electronic; it is one single composition divided into ten tracks which play out like movements in a classical variation set.

Worlds Within Track Listing:

01. Unending I
02. From Within I
03. From Within II
04. From Above
05. Tumult I
06. Tumult II
07. Tumult III
08. Tumult IV
09. Fade (Afterglow)
10. Unending II
